Department of Energy awards ISU biofuels project $2 million

The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $2 million in research funding to Iowa State University.
The research project is studying ways to make synthetic diesel fuel from switchgrass with minimal wastewater treatment.
The university is partnering with ConocoPhillips Company to test an integrated system to convert biomass to liquids.
The research is part of an 8-year, $22.5 million biofuels research program funded by ConocoPhillips at ISU to promote biorenewable fuels technologies.

In mid November 2007- the DOD (and DOE) announced that they DOD had a blank check available to any organization that could provide essentially a continuous supply of JP-8 or jet fuel. The only issue or criterion was that they would only deal with a total solution. The organization had to provide tested supply and delivery.

His company, AqWise, is one of this country's breakout start-ups in the expanding market for water technology. It has devised an intricate polymer cylinder that, when placed in wastewater treatment ponds, clusters microbes that consume contaminants. The water can then be safely discarded or used to irrigate fields.

PHANTOM LOADS
One answer to that question may be the little green and red lights you see all over the house and office at night when the room lights are turned off. Those little lights represent "Phantom Loads." Phantom Loads (PL) represent unproductive energy use.
