Timothy C. Grollimund
Chairman, eCommerce Advisory Committee, GreenMotion |
Tim has thirty years of professional experience in Fortune 50 financial services, state government, small business ownership, start-ups, museums, nonprofits and sports marketing. His rich and varied background has provided unique insight in marketing, business development and analysis, market research, database development, strategic planning, information systems and economic development. Tim holds a B.S. in Business (High Point University), a Master of Arts Degree in Economics (Virginia Commonwealth University) and graduate certificates in International Business and Nonprofit Management (also from Virginia Commonwealth University).
His professional carrier began with a very interesting case – analyzing and researching the appropriate tariff rate to be set for oil flowing through the Alaskan pipeline. As a graduate student and staff economist for Technical Associates, Tim conducted research for electric, natural gas, petroleum, coal and telephone industries. He also developed a niche for preparing feasibility studies for banks and savings and loan association clients.
As a Virginia Housing Development Authority Research Analyst Tim designed monitoring reports for single family and multi-family mortgage bond issues. His responsibilities also included feasibility studies for proposed single family and multi-family housing developments.
While in the Governor’s Office, Virginia Department of Economic Development, Tim managed an HP 3000 and developed a comprehensive database for sites and buildings in Virginia available for economic development. He also co-authored a monthly newsletter for the Marketing and Executive staff.
He spent over eight years with NationsBank (now Bank of America) in product development, managed the marketing customer information file (MCIF), and developed the MIS department for the Card Services subsidiary. As the manager of the database group, his group led the implementation procedures that focused on customer acquisition, retention and cross-sell opportunities. The group identified the need for and appended lifestyle, psychographic and segmentation data to the household files. In the MIS department Tim served on the Management Committee and was accountable to management for the franchise-wide monthly report covering all aspects of credit card operations for NationsBank.
After his banking career Tim shifted gears to a more active marketing, development and nonprofit focus as Promotions Manager for Nauticus, The National Maritime Center in Norfolk, Virginia. While at Nauticus, Tim was intricately involved in trade show organization, special events management, fundraisers and media promotions.
As an independent consultant Tim conducted various projects including a study of Comprehensive Economic Development Centers for the Virginia Department of Economic Development. He acted as research analyst and co-author for a study of financial and budgeting systems for the Secretary of Finance (his focus was on best practices and performance measurement). Tim also edited the State Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory for three years.
In 2003 he completed two levels of the International Business Certification Program at Virginia Commonwealth University. Apex Global Solutions LLC was created as an outcrop of the class. The Apex project took on a life of its own as Tim began to establish relationships in the international business community.
Apex’s projects have included market research for a major food distribution company in Virginia (Mexico), acting as Marketing Manager for a start-up sports facility (Richmond Indoor Sports Experience) and representing mediPulse, a patented over-the-counter product produced in South Korea.
On the personal side, Tim played college baseball on a nationally ranked team for a College Baseball Hall of Fame coach and is still active in the sport both as a player and as a Virginia High School League certified umpire. His passion for ecological interests manifested itself through his award winning underwater photography and his volunteer service as a photographer and member of the Scuba Diving Team for the Virginia Marine Science Museum. Tim also served on the Advisory Board of NorthStar Community, a recovery ministry in Richmond, Virginia for five years.
